OT and toys

Today Lily had OT.
I LOVE her occupational therapist!
And LILY LOVES her too!
She makes eye contact and has even let her hold her on a couple occasions!!!
Lily doesn't let anyone hold her!!!
Except me, Shaun, and my parents.
We look forward to OT!
Her OT brings a lot of fun things to play with but we have some at home to work with during the week
Lily has a problem with core strength especially sitting
So I had to make special "stools"

I took phone books of many different sizes and thicknesses and wrapped them with
cute wrapping paper
Then I wrapped the entire thing horizontally with clear packing tape
Then I wrapped it horizontally.
One more time around the outside edge and voila'
I have some OT stools!

At OT we work a lot on her sensory issues
We had her lay down on one of her favorite blankets
and I took one side and Her OT took the other side
And we lifted her about a foot off the ground.
She SCREAMED and SCREAMED
We put her down and she screamed and clung to me for
a long time afterwards
So we got out a fun puzzle for her to play with for a while and
after she was calm and happy again we got out the
Pillow Mountain!
She loves to crawl on it
as long as we don't touch her...
Its definite progress!
Just a few weeks ago she couldn't stand it!
Especially going down
We still have to be super careful
especially as the day goes on because she becomes weaker.
And her joints like to buckle beneath her weight

After the pillow mountain we worked on her fine motor skills
She has to hold onto a small object and try to release it into a bottle.
She is great with her right hand
Her left hand however,
not so much.
She has a hard time holding things with her lefty
and releasing is super super difficult.
But she is making progress
Her whole left side is still weak and doesn't keep up with her right side at all
but most days she is able to at least use both her hands
to hold large toys or crawl.
Only on days when she is super sick does her left hand just hang at her side.
Thats about it for OT today.
Tomorrow we start Feeding Therapy FINALLY!!!
We have been trying to get in to FT for
8 MONTHS!!!!

  1. Reading this reminds me SO much of where we were a year ago! I hope that the therapy will help Lily as much as it's helped Raya. OT has been HUGE for us and it's amazing to look back at the things that used to terrify her that she doesn't bat an eyelash at now. ♥
